Come to the CabaretCome to the Cabaret was a common sayingduring the last few weeks before the 1976 prom. The theme, carried out in a variety of ways, wasunique compared to previous proms. But a lot ofhard work and preparations were made all yearbefore the big night of the Cabaret, May 1,arrived.Torches lighted the entrance leading into thered, black, and silver room. Tables for each couple bordered the dance floor, and the word Cab-,aret, in large silver letters, hung above thestage. The crowded dance floor bumped to themusic of the Sixth Dynasty, although somepeople were disappointed at the lack of slowsongs. Also for entertainment, Mr. Richard Ritzdirected a nightclub style stage show, featuringimitations, singing, and a skit. The highlight ofthe evening was the crowning of the 1976 PromQueen Shannon Raney and King Doug Collins. At 12:00 the Cabaret concluded and themajority of the students finished the evening at thePost Prom, held at Indiana Memorial Union Building. Games, food, and prizes lasted until 4:00a.m.The success of the prom can be credited to thework and cooperation of all those involved: Thejunior class officers and sponsors who carried thebasic responsibility of the prom production; theHome Ec and Fine Arts Departments who helpedwith refreshments and decorations; juniors who puttogether and tore down decorations; and especiallythe over 500 people who attended the Cabaret. |
