The Show Goes OnStory by Atiqah Mi id hirFor nine years, the North choir class has beeninvolved in the annual Cabaret concert.Started during the year of 1996-1997, theCabaret has not only been student-organized, butit is the only non-formal concert that the choirclass has. The performance varies of studentsfrom the mixed choir class, concert choir class, and vocal jazz ensemble class.Auditions are held for students from my choirclass to perform at the Cabaret. Students arerequired to have their music in print for the liveexperience, Mrs. Louise Wohlafka said.Once the winners are announced, students arein charge and are given eight weeks to puttogether the dress rehearsal. The eight weeks are filled with a lot of sweatand planning put into this concert not only forthe performance and stage itself but also topromote the concert.Wohlafka said ads are sold, donations aresolicited, and t-shirts are also designed for themembers to wear. Because the production of theconcert is costly, this is the only choir concertthat is ticketed for helping with the fund- raisingfor future choir programs. We had to practice our performance and songseveryday during choir class and after school. Soit was very time consuming for the most part, sophomore Meghan Shedlak said.Though it is very time consuming, no regretsare felt because the Cabaret is the only popularmusic performance amongst the students saidsenior Ben Montecue. The crowd this year was great and was the bestCabaret in years said Wohlafka.Because the Cabaret is set up more like a talentshow, the crowd seems to enjoy that a lot,Shedlak said.Indiana University freshman Nadia LaMantiaalong with her twin sister, Annysa LaMantia, whowas members of the Cabaret previous years, alsocame by to help run this years program asproducers. LaMantia said she was excited to helpout with the program and put countless amountsof hours into the program.I felt a sense of accomplishment after the showwas over. I was happy to give back to a programthat I had many good memories being in, LaMantia.Thecrowdseemstoenjoythat.-Megan Shedlak, sophomore\ ) \¥ 1+>HL- \ Alyssa MjMathSenior Josh David plays hisguitar and sings whileentertaining the audience atCabaret.
