Fine Arts areoffered at public high schools for a few reasons. It broadens a students opportunity by tapping into an undiscovered creative side, which makes one a better well-rounded person, Guidance Counselor Kathy Rillo said.Art teacher Diane Davis-Deckard agrees. It is essential to full development, Davis-Deckard said. The Fine Arts Department at North has four divisions - Arts, Theatre Arts, Music/Dance, and Choral. Some of the commonly chosen classes out of all four divisionsare Marching Band, Theatre Arts, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics and ComputerGraphics.Although Graphic Arts teacher Mr. James Callahan is happy with the department, hewould add as much as a variety of classes possible to the programs at North.Senior Daniel Burnham said the art department is what gets him to school and captureshis interests.I only have four classes at North, and two of those are art classes. And thats whatkeeps me here. Its fun to express myself.I like the fact that you have freedom to express yourselfand so many variations you can play around with-junior Christine RichardsIts realaxing.
