The girlsfinal record of 22-2 was anaccomplishment for the entire team. Thevarsity team was made up of fourseniors, onejunior, one sophomore andone freshman.The girls season was a long one,making it to semi-state where they werebeaten by Evansville Memorial. The onlyother loss of the season came fromCenter Grove, the No. 2 team in the state.The biggest match of the season isalways the North-South match, whichwas played May 9.The girls won thematch with a score of 3-2. The nextmeeting with South was in the sectionalfinal when the North girls again came upwith the victory this time with a score of4-1.This was the third year in a row the girlswon the sectional title. During each ofthose years, the girls have had to playSouth for the title and play them on itshome courts. The girls preparedthroughout the season for sectionals, andit paid off with sectional victories. Notonly did the girls win their third sectionaltitle, but they also won regionals, whichhasnt happened in 26 years.Senior Katie Notter said this year,winning regionals was a perfect way toendmy four years of tennis. Someofmybest memories are with the three otherseniors, Kate, Sam and Shama.Some other wins for the girls were atthe Washington Invitational where theyclenched the conference championship.The season was full of unity andteam-bonding, I was tight with all of thegirls, senior Samantha Spiro said.Another senior, Shama Mehta,agreed.-Im really happy, we exceeded all ofour goals, she said.Head Coach Barb Mills also agreed andsaid this was one of the best seasons.She said she has enjoyed coaching thegirls for the past four years.
