Description: OrchestraThis year the Bloomington High School North Orchestra combined withBloomington High School South to play six concerts and one national competition as theHoosier Youth Philharmonic (HYP). In addition, North competed at ISSMA, and earned asuperior rating in Division I. Special ensembles were performed at Fourth Street ArtsFair, Honors Night, Evening of the Arts, ISSMA regional and state solo and ensembles,and BHSN commencement.Highlights of the year included: The Night of Dance, String Spectacular,Bloomington Symphony Orchestra Concert, and theGrand National Adjudicators Invitational inChattanooga, Tennessee, in reward for theirperformance in the previous year.Every year the Orchestra plays two and a halfhours worth of dance music. The wonderful music fillsthe air as people of various ages and abilities enjoythemselves. The tradition has been going strongsince 1985 with new additions each year. This yearthere were 250 people in attendance.Another tradition, The Spring Spectacular,brought all 430 Monore County Community SchoolCorporation string students together in one room,each group playing progressivly harder and harder music. Souths Gymnasiumrang of Mozart as all the age groups joined in on Ode to Joy as the finale of thenight.At the endof April, thegroup went toChattanooga, TN to play at the Grand NationalAdjudicators Invitational. The Orchestra earned aspot in the festival by recieving a superior rating atthe 2002 Dixie Classic in Virginia.
