Description: VolleyballThe 2002 Cougar volleyball team completed a fantastic season, endingwith a final record of 33-6, undefeated in Conference Indiana. Theirimpressive record earned them a ranking of fifth in the state, but the girls didntstop there. They set and spiked their way to both the sectional and regionaltitles, then advanced to the final four where the girls suffered a difficult defeat atthe hands of Muncie Central, the eventual state chamions.During this spectacular season, theschools single season assist record wasbroken by junior Mary Ryan with 933assists. In addition, sophomore WhitneyThomas broke the single season kill recordwith 333. Thomas was also named 1stteam All-State. Thomas, along with juniorCasey Chrzastowski and senior AnneFields were all named All-Conference.Chrzastowski was also named a Junior AllStar Team Member.At the end of the season, head coachTom Beerman announced his retirement.Beerman finished his seven-year careerhere at North with an overall record of 176-54, winning four Conference Indiana titles,two sectionals, and two regionals. CoachBeerman is the greatest mind in volleyball Ive ever met, said senior Alison Pitt.He taught us all so much about the games physical and mental aspects. The North program has accomplished whatit has because of his experience and dedication.
