To start off, why dont you tell ourreaders what basic class you teach.RR: I teach all the French classes at BloomingtonNorth. All levels, one through five. Ive also taughtsome Spanish in the pastCD: How many years have you been teaching hereat Bloomington North?RR: Here? At North? Since it opened, so, thirtyyearsCD: Wow. Youre old. So, how many languages doyou speak? How many of them can you speakfluently?RR: French and Spanish fluently, and some GermanCD: How many French class groups have youtaken to France?RR: Ten, actually better call it twelve.CD: Anyway, what else have you done here atNorth that the students may know you from?RR: Well let me think: Coached Spell Bowl, Donethe PA for football and basketball, hosted NHStalent show for fifteen years, (contemplates) hostedHonors Ceremonies, Played in student (vs.) facultyevents, coached Academic Decathlon Team,Sponsored Cougars for Christ. And coordinated andprovided entertainment for the prom that was calledCabaret back in the 70s.CD: Thats a lot of stuff Youve announced at thisschool for a while too, havent you?RR: Ive announced at all the football andbasketball games that were at NorthCD: Now, your students know you are notoriouslyknown for your BAD jokes. How many can youthink of off the top of your head?RR: (laughs) How many jokes can I think of offthe top of my head? An infinite amount. But, myoldest most worn out joke is, Take out a piece ofscratch paper and start scratching.CD: In your French II class your tally of bad jokes(as of 4/30/02) stands at 204! What is your recordfor most bad jokes in one class in one school year?RR: In 1975 they took a count, and I dontremember the tally but it was close. The overallaverage is two a class period.CD: Well, what are you going to be doing after youretire?RR: Im gonna be traveling the state sellinglanguage learning systems. But Ill still live inBloomington and still hope to PA for the ball games.Mr. Sieboldt InterviewMary Sieve: How long have you been teachingand coaching at North?Ralph Sieboldt: Ive been teaching in the careerfor a long time and Ive always coached here.MS: What did you get out of coaching?RS: Coaching kept me in teaching.MS: What have you coached and how long did youcoach it?RS: I coached cross-country for twenty-eightyears, coached track for thirty years, the firsttwenty years I coached boys track, and the girlstrack team last twenty years.MS: What are your most memorable moments?RS: Stephanie Basset and Jennifer Warthan andAmanda Warthan winning state titles.MS: If you could change one thing, what would itbe?RS: I cant change anything, but I might spendmore time with my wife and family.MS: Why are you retiring?RS: Thirty-four years is enough, I have a lot ofthings in life. I dont have time to do what I want todo.MS: What will you do now?RS: Spend time with my family and grandkids.Work on my antiques.MS: What will you miss?RS: I will miss feeling young, teaching makes youfeel younger than you really are.MS: Do you have any parting words?RS: I believe anyone who is going to work shouldfind a job they enjoy.
