Cutler and Debro head HHC team.The 1977-78 Cougar Basketball season was an unusual one, to say the least.Blizzards, ice, and the energy crisisforced cancellations and postponementsof seven games. What was a successfulseason ended at Martinsville in a loss toEminence in the finals of the SectionalTournament. The Cougar season recordwas 16-7 with a championship in theVincennes Holiday Tourney and impressive victories over Terre Haute South andLoogootee.The Cougars incurred their successfulseason through the talented seniors andGood job Kent. Hey Blake, I couldnt of done itwithout that great assist you gave me.Senior Pat Gladfelter gets ready to muscle in fortwo points against Mitchell.the coaching of George Fielding. KentCutler led the crew in scoring for the second year, while Bill Wever impressed uswith his excellent outside shooting. DaveSnyder was a ready rebounder, finishingas the second all time rebounder. BlakeSmith was a solid, dependable and gooddefensive player. Pat Gladfelter and RonJackson proved to be quick, aggressiveguards.The accomplished underclassmenadded much potential to the team. Marcus Debro was an outstanding forward.Other juniors Phil Bomber, guard, andTom Griffin, guard, were supersubs,along with sophomores J. C. Hulls andTed Reeves.Other team records: Marcus Debrohad the leading field goal percentagewith 63%; Dave Snyder blocked 48 shotsfor the season record, and most consecutive games in double figures was KentCutler with 23 games.Hard work and dedication on the partof the underclassmen will make nextyears team a very exciting club to watch.1977-78 Varsity Basketball Team, front row: Tom Griffin, Phil Bomber, Pat Gladfelter, Jim Bush, and RonJackson.
