Description: Things Are Not As Bad As They SeemGood Losers Got Into the Habit of Losing as Overall Records ProvedThe Varsity and Reserve volleyballteams had the challenge of adjusting totwo new coaches this year, Gloria Kiddand Jill Hall. Both teams had some verytalented girls but experienced a numberof problems of trying to work togetheras both of their overall records proved.The varsity finished 2-11 and Reserve 4-8.The Varsity lost their first game of theseason losing to Terre Haute North 8-15,15-10, and 17-15. They came back andwon their second game beating Mitchell15-8 and 15-8. They then lost fivestraight including a loss to BloomingtonSouth 0-15 and 7-15. Their only otherwin came by breaking their five gamelosing streak and beating Brown County15-9 and 15-2.In the first round of sectional play,North was defeated by Owen Valley 15-1and 15-10.Only two seniors played on this yearsteam, Barb Snapp and Vikki Thoren.There were also five sophomores, ShirleyMcGruder, Dawn Lynn, Jane Belisle,Martha Hamilton, and Dea Howell, whoplayed on the Varsity team this yearwhich gives the team some experiencedplayers for the coming years.The Gold Award, most valuable player,went this year to Barb Snapp, and theIKSMaroon Award, most improved player,went to Dea Howell.The Reserve team started out the season with a four game losing streak,including a loss to Bloomington Southwinning only one out of three games.They went on to break their losing streakand beat county rivals Edgewood, Martinsville, and Seymour before falling toBrown County, Bedford, and CenterGrove. The season ended with a loss toTerre Haute South and a big win overColumbus East.
