Fight!Win!As our story begins, the gym is full ofscreaming girls trying out for twentyspots on the cheerleading squad, six varsity, six reserves, and eight freshmen.Soon afterwards, twenty girls namesare called off: seniors Brenda Baker,Rachel Klassen, and Lisa Smith; juniorsBeth McDaniel, Lisa Tomak, and Joy Carrmaking the varsity squad; sophomoresSara Cox, Kathy Gladfelter, Marci Endris,Kim England, Tawny Cory, and TraceyColeman for the reserve squad; andJamie Wade, Karen Schwomeyer, CindySauer, Julie Martin, Karen Hartung,Christi Jolivette, Chiara Mickel, and JanaColeman making the freshman squadand the hard work begins.July arrives and cheerleading campbegins. As in other years, North cheerleaders brought home top honors onceagain. Freshman Cindy Sauer wasnamed Miss Cheerleader, the reservesreceived the Award of Excellence, andthe squads combined brought home thespirit stick.The cheerleaders didnt limit theiractivities to just camp, they also sponsored many fund raisers such as a schooldance and a car wash. The girls goteveryone out of class one day also asthey held a pep session to spark uphomecoming festivities. And of coursethey cheered at football and basketballgames, especially in leading on our football team to a Hoosier Hills championship.Cheerleaders play an important part ofthe sports scene, and the Cougars have aright to be proud of them. |
