Row 2: Jennifer Oh, EricMays, Melanie Schwandt, Heather Nanny,Barbara Beeker, Wendy OBrien, Sponsor JanBrand.The official purpose of STAND is tofacilitate education and personal growthby bringing together teens and professional resources to share information,develop specific skills, and examine feelings and attitudes about substancesmisuse and related problems.In simplier terms, STAND is designed to fight what seems to be one of thenations major problems affecting highschool students today—drug and alcoholabuse.Following David Tomas visit to areaschools in September of 1985, there hasbeen a new awareness in the community.Parents and students alike were concerned. Many programs resulted from thisconcern, one of them being STAND.STAND members must take a pledgeto practice what they preach, and bedrug and alcohol free. Their meetings areinformal, and open to anyone. Discussions center on problems at North, andwhat can be done to correct them.STAND is doing its best to stopsubstance abuse in our community.Through hard work and fresh ideas, theyhope to make Bloomington North drugand alcohol-free.STAND 151-i*rr
