P.E.: Past, Present, FutureAt North, a requirement for graduation is to complete and pass twosemesters of physical education, usuallyin the freshman year. As freshmen inP.E., students are taught about teamsports, individual sport aquatics andrecreational activities. Students also learnabout the effects of exercise on the body.During the year in P.E., studentsspend about two weeks participating ineach of the following sports: volleyball, basketball, swimming, football, gymnastics, soccer, baseball and self-defense.The rest of the year is spent in shorterunits which are picked by the teacher orvoted on by the class. In the past, the advanced classes haveparticipated in many of the same activities as the general classes, but withmuch shorter units. This allows themmore time for activities away fromschool, such as snow skiing, bowling, golfing and roller and ice skating.Presently, classes offer the same activities that have been available in thepast. Also, the same teachers are conducting the classes, adding to their consistency. Hopefully, the future sees a continuation of dedication by physical educationteachers Gary Hill, Terry Thompson,Clark Tyler, and Dick Ranard.**Freshman Jared Beard concentrates on the ballas his dassmate misses the basket.Off to a good start, this freshman prepares for aunique dive.Get in shape, girls! exclaims Mrs. Smith. |
