Description: UNDERWEAR/By Caryn CastellanUnderwear. Not the most discussed article of clothing, but definitelyan essential. Many people just reachfor the closest pair, the warmestpair, or the pair found at the bottomof the drawer. Some say underwearis underwear, but for many othersunderwear is a reflection of theirpersonality. On the topic of underwear variety it seems that women tend tohave more of a variety. Everyone, male and female, seems to have atleast one pair of the old favorite, thewhile cotton blend. Women tend tohave more variety in the fabrics, usually having a few pairs of nylonor silk undies. A few go for the sexylace and one anonymous younglady even has a pair of bambooundergarments.Color of underwear spans a widevariety of colors. Males tend to ownmostly white (most common), black, tan, blue and red underwear with afew pairs of maroon, brown, grayand orange thrown in. Favorite colors among females are blue, pink, beige and white, many ladies simplysay they own all colors, and thatsolves the problem.Fruit-of-the-Loom underwear isthe popular mainstay for todaysyoung man. It seems that all thosecommercials with Grandma and thelocal produce section havent beenin vain. Many people feel that certainunderwear has an influence on theirmood and that different pairs makethem feel different. Some peoplehave lucky underwear and theyoften wear it on test days. (Here Ienter a plea to teachers that theytake into consideration how manytests they schedule before washday.) One male was honest enoughto say that he wore coloredunderwear on dates to make himfeel sporty. This same younggentleman also hinted that quite aFew males follow this practice. The white cotton underwear isworn by all females, especially thepractical and athletic. What could bemore practical than a good, sturdypair of cotton underpants? Cottonunderwear being all natural fibers isdefinitely the best bet for a well ventilated bottom during an intenseworkout.Women don the lacy and racy silkunderwear for that special occasionbecause deep down it gives themthe feeling of sensuality. Manywomen have confessed to wearingthe lace undies at other times just togive themselves an emotional lift.Different colors are worn dependingon the mood of the wearer. Babypink and powder blue are worn attimes of insecurity or inner peace.Lately beige has become a competitor for white as the most popularunderwear color. Wild colors suchas neon orange, hot pink, cobaltblue, bright yellow and green tendto be worn when the wearer is in ahappy mood or would like to end aperiod of depression.Because men have little variety tochoose from, color plays an important role. It seems that most menwould be content with the mundane white. Colored underwear isusually a gift from an insane girlfriendor purchased by a mother of fourboys who is sick of washing dullwhite underwear. After having acquired the color variety, males tendto treat the duller colors (e.q. tan, blue, gray) with the same respectthey treat the white. The racier colors such as red, orange and blackare usually worn to make the wearerfeel sporty and neat. At thistime it appears to be fashionableto have your colored underwearsticking out of a tear in the seat ofyour jeans.Printed underwear bearingslogans like Im Behind Big Redand Make Love Not War replacethe Snoopy, Holly Hobbie and Dayof the Week underwear worn as achild. The prep fashions havegreatly influenced the printedunderwear scene through the production of underwear with hearts, strawberries, whales, etc. on them. Some printed underwear reveals insanity in the wearer; take for instance the cow motif and nuclearwar mural underwear. Even famousmonuments like le Louvre of Franceand the Washington Monumenthave been known to grace thehuman derriere.Unlike the days of our grandparents, when variety in underwearwas not offered or thought about,we today have a variety ofunderwear to choose from. Todayunderwear is not the delicate topicthat it once was and people are taking advantage of the great varietythey can purchase. Underwear aswell as being functional and practical, is an excellent vehicle for expressing ones amotions andpersonality.
