Description: Look at Us ...Hitting the BooksYoull never believe my assignment for tomorrow is a statementmany students make to one anotheras they dig to the bottom of theirlockers looking for that certainmisplaced paper. At times, it seems to get through afull load of classes plus be active inextracurricular activities and still havea social life, one must have a strongsence of self-discipline, be willing tomake a time commitment and havea sense of humor about school. When a parent or another adultremarks about the joy of beingyoung and in school, you sometimeswonder if things may just be a bitmore difficult for you. juggling fiveto six classes a day, responsibilities athome and a part-time job intotwenty-four hours is hectic. Freetime, when you can just sit back andrelax, many seem scarce.Studying may seem to take up allyour time. Late night study sessionslasting to early morning aresometimes resorted to, afternoonsat the I. U. and public libraries are acommon practice, and occasionallyone may spend his lunch hour sittingat his locker with a book in hand.Is is worth it? Are hours of studying, days filled with lectures, hundreds of algebra problems andendless vocabulary words worththeir benefits. In the end manyformer students would be quick toagree that their four years of highschool complete with science experiments, oral reports, classicalnovels and careful calculationsprepared them for the rest of theirlives. Students who go on to collegeto continue their education find thatthey are faced with more studying, experiments, novels and calculations. Other students who dontcontinue their education find thatwhat theyve learned in high schoolhas made them a more educatedand well-rounded person.14*
