This group of studentsestablished a tradition ofexcellence and pride thathas made North one of thebest high schools in thestate. This tradition lives onin our outstandingacademics, sports, andstudent activities. The academic excellenceof Norths students andfaculty serves to set usapart from the rest. Therelationship betweenteachers and their studentsis one of openness, and ismarked by a genuineinterest in learning on bothsides. This atmosphereprepares a large percentageof our graduates for collegeand has led to manysignificantaccomplishments. Forexample, North had ninesemifinalists this year in theNational Merit ScholarshipCompetition. Only twoschools in the entire statehad more. A student doesnot have to be headed tocollege to enjoy his years atNorth, however. Facilitiessuch as the businessdepartment and theindustrial arts departmentprepare students for careersafter high school.North has alsoestablished itself in sports.Weve become well-knownfor our excellent crosscountry, track, andswimming teams. There isan interest in all sports, andteams do not have to bechampions to receiveenthusiastic support fromstudents, staff, and parents.Scores of students devotehours of their valuable timeto practice in order topolish their skills and todevelop the special elementof teamwork that isessential in athletics. There is plenty to do atNorth in ones spare time.Dozens of clubs andactivities are offered tostudents who seek theother half of education, which is found only outsidethe classroom. These rangefrom bands, choirs, andtheatre, to clubs whichsupport interest in variouscareers and academic areas.Over the years, Northhas truly established itselfas an excellent place togrow.
