Spanish Students Travel to MexicoFIFTEEN SPANISH students, accompanied byMrs. Judy Lucas and Mrs. Donnadee Blair, spentthree weeks in Mexico during the summer of1968. They visited such cities as Oaxaca, Aca-pulco, and Mexico City. This trip was so successful that another one has been planned for thesummer of 1969.The introduction of everyday Spanish to thelanguage department was a welcome addition fornon-college bound students. Its purpose was toacquaint students with basic Spanish words andpronunciation, which would aid them as tourists.To help them learn about the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, the everyday Spanish classesalso made crafts.First and second year Latin students used tapesto help them learn vocabulary and the fundamentals of Latin grammar. As part of their study ofRoman life and culture, the first year studentsalso made projects. The advanced class translated Vergils Aeneid and read poetry by Martial,Horace, and Catullus.The advanced French and German classes performed skits and played games in order to create more interest in their languages. German students read Der Weg zum Lesen, a book of shortstories.TOP RIGHT . .. Gaining knowledge of Spanish foods, MarkBrumleve prepares tortillas for his Spanish class. BELOW LEFT...
