Itwas, indeed, a season of great success; however,it was also one of bitter disappointment.Highlighting the season was a five-two recordin dual meets, victories in the mile relay and distance medley events at the Hoosier Relays, firstplaces in both the Linton and Seymour Relays, victories in the South Central Conference, Sectional, and Regional meets, and the distinction ofplacing no lower than second in any other competition. Eighteen individuals and both relay teamsqualified for the Regional meet. The Panthers broke several existing Bloomington High School records during the 1967 season. In the pole vault, Claude Johnson established thenew indoor record at 12 5V_> and the new outdoor mark at 13 0. David McClain set a newrecord in the 180 yard low hurdles at 20.6 seconds.Competing in the long jump, Ken Wright broke theschool mark, soaring to 22 1. The Panthers milerelay team consisting of Don Edmonds, Don Renfro, Dan McGinn, and Ron Edmonds, shaved two-tenths of a second from the mile relay record. All of this success was, however, overshadowedby the agony of defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Washington Continentals led by LarryHighbaugh. The Panthers finished their season by securinga six-way tie for eighteenth place in the state meet,a rather unfitting climax for an otherwise brilliantseason. |
