What is time? The shadow of the dial, the striking of the clock, the running of the sand, dayand night, summer and winter, months, years, centuries—these are but arbitrary and outwardsigns, the measure of Time, not Time itself. Time is the Life of the Soul.. . . LongfellowTime is a duration, a period of existence, which has arbitrarily and most conveniently been divided intoyears, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Through the years, devices such as the sundial, the hourglass, and the clock have been used to accurately count and relate these divisions of time.Time—the scale by which we set our lives. How often during a day does a Bloomington High studentlook at his watch? He must be on time to catch his bus in the morning. He must check the hall clocks so hewont be late to class. He has to set a certain time to meet his friends at a ballgame. In our daily lives here at Bloomington Senior High School we set a time for each of our activities. The1550 students enter the rooms of 80 competent teachers at 8:30 to begin the days studies. After school theboys work long hours to perfect skills and plays in nine competitive sports. On Thursday morning students turn their attention to the 28 clubs at BSHS. Students keep busy after schoolrehearsing plays, doing special projects for clubs, working on the GOTHIC or OPTIMIST, preparing for tomorrows classes, or buzzing the A&W.Three years, the time in our lives we spend at BSHS, we attempt to learn what is prescribed for a high schoolgraduate. Perhaps one of the most important things we learn is the value of time. As we sit through a classwe sometimes wonder why the clock is creeping so slowly, but if a term paper is due in nine weeks, we wonder instead how the days can pass so quickly. We discover just how valuable a commodity time can be if weuse it to the best advantage. There is a time set aside for all things. The years at Bloomington Senior High School give us the opportunity to grow and mature, to begin coping with responsibilities, to form friendships, and to learn.AS DO MANY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, Mike Schererfinds spending late hours over homework and early risinga tiring, but sometimes necessary practice. |
