The B BAND, first created four years ago, is thesecond band at B.H.S., and it is composed largely ofjunior high school students. This band was primarilyestablished for the purpose of developing the juniorhigh school students musical knowledge and ability.This year a challenge determined what position eachplayer had in his section.The band marched around the town square in theHalloween Parade and played popular music at apops concert for their parents. The members ofthe band joined the other B.H.S. bands, orchestras,and choral groups in the Spring Music Festival.Officers for the past year were Paul Hazel, president; Julia Binkley, vice-president; John Stillions,secretary; John Bruner, treasurer; Nan Voile andDavid Frye, librarians; Carol OMalley and Dee AnnGregory, assistant librarians. Mr. Edgar L. Axsom wasthe director.The C BAND was organized to absorb the recent expansion of music in the metropolitan schools.This band is composed entirely of junior highmusicians. Since the band served mainly as a trainingunit, it had very few outside activities. It did, however, participate in the Spring Music Festival alongwith the other music groups at Bloomington HighSchool.According to a system devised by the metropolitanmusic department, any junior high beginner may tryout for the C Band. If he qualifies, and after hisinstrumental abilities and techniques have improvedto the accepted standards, he may advance to the BBand. When he gets in high school, he may then goon to the A Band if he is capable of playing thematerial.Officers this year were Steve Chitwood, president;Ramona Trisler, vice-president; Joann Parker, secretary; Deanna Fiscus, treasurer; Ruth Wiley, librarian; and Bonnie Gordon, assistant librarian. Mr.Edgar L. Axsom was the director.The JUNIOR HIGH ORCHESTRA was organized primarily for training purposes. Under the direction and instruction of Mr. Donald Neal, they developed their musical talents. To do this the orchestrawas divided into two groups which met separatelytwo days a week. These groups, which were calledadvance and intermediate, totaled thirty-five innumber.To gain admittance to the Junior High Orchestra,students must know certain scales, and they must beable to sight read proficiently. The young musicianshave on the most part been studying since the fifthgrade and are continuing this study by way of classinstruction. There were four sections: violin, viola,cello, and bass. Each section met after school once aweek where the students received individual attention.This year, the Junior High Orchestra gave a concert with the Senior High Orchestra. They also gavea pops concert and participated in the SpringMusic Festival.Junior Orchestra.
