The band began a memorable year by marching at all thehome football games and also the one atWiley of Terre Haute. At every home basketball game the band could be found sittingin their own private balcony playing thatsnazzy pep song we all like so well. Besidesplaying at all the games, the band also takespart in pep sessions, convocations, concerts,and at commencement. This year they havetaken several enjoyable trips, including theirparticipation at the Ellettsville Fall Festivaland the Monon Centennial Celebration at NewAlbany. The band, under the direction of Mr.Carl Frye, further displayed their musicalability at the Winter and Spring Concerts.The band and orchestra parties that were heldduring the year helped to make this a successful year for the band.SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CHORUSSing and be happy. This is the motto ofthe chorus, which started its activities by being represented at the Indiana State TeachersAssociation. Over eight hundred studentsfrom Indiana High Schools participated inthis festival chorus under the direction of DonCraig, assistant to Fred Waring. The chorusrevived and presented the old high school song,Boost for Bloomington High at a pepsession.At Christmas season they presentedselections at convocations and for Parent-Teacher meetings. They also went carolingat the hospital, nursing homes, and severalresidences. On the eve of Christmas vacation,they caroled in the corridors throughout theschool.In April the chorus was host to the District Choral Festival which was held in RecitalHall at Indiana University. Miss Helen Schwend, our choral director, was district chairman in charge of the event; and Dean WilfredC. Bain was the guest conductor.Page 26
