These seven regular yellleaders also have other duties. They aid in keeping the spirit of the crowd incheck at all times, plan and take charge of most of the pep sessions, write andintroduce new yells, and train the members of the Yell Leaders Club for conducting yells during the second team games.A few of the girls had their own personal yells. Sue Ann Harrell led usin Purple White, Fight! and Barbara Baker wrote her own called On theBeam, while the twins specialty was Inter Vevo.One event of the school year open only to the varsity cheer leaders isthe Southern Indiana Yell Leaders Conference held this fall at Indiana University.It was the first conference for most of our leaders but it was the third for SueAnn and the second for Jean and Joan Hetherington.To become one of the varsity yell leaders one must first belong to theclub. Sue Ann Harrell, the captain, has been one of the principal yell leadersfor four years during which time she has contributed greatly to the perfectionof new and snappy yells. Jean and Joan Hetherington have been members ofthe club for three years and first team cheer leaders for two years.
