To bein the band means being caught in a whirlwind of activities and tossed about untilyour graduation day «—> but its fun. From the first day of school when the football season begins, until the last summer concert, the band is called upon torender its spirited rhythms and romatic airs for every event from usheringSanta Claus to his throne to setting the tempo for the May Pole festivities. Most students who become band members begin their instrumental musicstudies in the elementary school and are prepared to do band work by the timethey are freshmen in high school. The band is generally regarded as a performing group and is called upon to perform publicly about seventy times ayear, therefore, the musical activities of the band are necessarily of a programplanning nature. Band members who are serious music students generally enroll in orchestra for a year or two where the pace is slowed down and a definitemusic history and appreciation program is planned.Page 84This Page Sponsored by HANSON MOTOR CO.
