Students generallybegin their instrumental music activities in the fourth or fifth grade, wheretraining on the instrument of their choice is offered. After about four yearsof experience, students may apply for membership in the senior orchestra.Orchestral activities provide the student with experience in playing much of thevast amount of orchestral literature from the chorals and chants of the sixteenth century to the modern light musical comedy hits. An adequate libraryof musical records is being built and used one day of each week in the directstudy of music appreciation through listening. Although public performanceis not regarded as the most important contribution of music education at B.H.S.,the orchestra does share with the public much of the good music in the yearsrepertoire by appearing at dramatic productions, convocations, and concerts.Students who experience orchestral activities during their school life emergericher in the possibility of appreciating the beauties in this world that are oursfor the taking.Page 82This Page Sponsored by DAY FUNERAL HOME
