Description: • Opening the door to information of the commercial world,our business education instructors teach courses in commercialgeography, everyday business,and introduction to business.Solving the needs of those whoprefer to work with figuresand those interested in futureoffice work, our commercial department offers typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. Duringthe first semester, Mrs. Stradlingassumed the duties of Mrs.Crouse, who resigned to joinher husband in Washington, D.C.While Christmas bells were ringing, wedding bells rang for Mrs.Kaiser, the former Miss Crum.• A typical day in the bookstoreincludes the renting of books,selling of postage stamps, ordering another case of cokes for aschool party, collecting seniorfees, answering inquiries concerning lost articles, and theselling of supplies. As the daymoves on, the workers in thebookstore can be seen busilydoing anything from the preparation of books and supplies forthe grade schools to balancing^the treasurers books of different!organizations in B.H.S.turn• The health department hasthe responsibility of safeguarding the health of students, faculty, and employees of all theBloomington schools. In additionto the routine program of examinations and immunizations, theycare for minor injuries and illnesses as they occur from dayto day. Dr. Culmer is presentat all major athletic events tocare for any injuries that mightoccur among the players. In order to keep B.H.S. incondition, our housekeepers must perform numerous tasks, whichrange from keeping the dust away to freeing our walks from ice andsnow. While we rest during summer vacation, they assume addedduties by giving our school a thorough late spring cleaning.Another hidden department of our school is the cafeteria staffwhich prepares and serves appetizing lunches for an average of 300hungry students each day. Although food still ranked high on thescarcity list, our cooks continued to prepare a variety of food at aminimum cost for us.PAGE 29
