Description:	BAND AND ORCHESTRAThis year after Mr. Longs departure, Mr. Frye took charge of the bandand orchestra. Under his direction the band learned several new formationswhich they displayed last fall upon the football field between halves.On December 21 both groups held their annual winter concert. The springconcert, which was held in April, consisted of the required selections for theState Band and Orchestra Contest, which is held May 4.Members from both groups entered the State Solo and Ensemble Conteston March 30. Those placing in first division were as follows: Violin, RolandCrookes and Ola Jean Knight; French horn, Ed Bruce; piccolo and flute,Ruth Thomas; baritone, Bob Downs; and baton twirling, Phillip Ferguson.Those students who are eligible for the National Contest, which will be heldat Battle Creek, Michigan, are: Piccolo, Nancy Uland; student directing,Phillip Ferguson; string ensemble, Alice McGuire, Mary St. Clair, MarjorieDalton, Kitty Lee Brown, and Alma Chambers; and brass quintet, Bill Johnson, Bill Link, Ed Bruce, Maurice Johnson, and Victor Duncan.We wish them the best of luck when they go to the National Contest atBattle Creek, Michigan, on May 15.BANDTop Picture, Row One, left to right: Rachel Winslow, Nancy Uland, Ruth Thomas,Phoebe Crookes.
