Unacquainted with the ways of the school, we started out asfreshmen, 400 strong to do and dare. After three years of learning, wefirst expressed ourselves as a class in April of 1942 with the election ofclass officers; namely, Howard House, president; Robert Koontz, vice-president; Dudley Colbert, treasurer; and Marjorie Burns, secretary. Wechose as class sponsors Mr. Hurst, Mrs. Peters, and Mr. Stubbs. In traditional manner as our first social event, we presented theMaytime Promenade in honor of the class of 1942 with Joe Kennedy andKathryn Ramsey reigning as prom king and queen. The beginning of theyear found us choosing new sponsors because of the loss of Mr. Hurst tothe armed forces, and the resignation of Mr. Stubbs. Our new sponsorswere Mr. Wonnell and Miss Gilstrap. Mr. Wonnell left us on February 15,making two class sponsors we had given to the service. Mrs. Atkins wasappointed faculty business manager of the Senior class to replace Mr.Wonnell.On September 25 the Gothic staff was announced, and work on theyear book was enthusiastically started. The class held its first party ofthe year as a get-acquainted dance.Spring Fever, our first dramatic performance of the year, scored abig triumph with its many rollicking laughs. January 22 found us enteringthe gym attired as farmers and farmerettes for the Jersey Bounce. On March 11th a reception was held for our parents, and soonafter, our second play of the year, Every Family Has One, was presented. With the prom, the senior dance, baccalaureate, and commencement, the class of 1943 bade its farewell to B. H. S.
