F. Mumby,coach, Charles Kauffman, James Bender.Due to the fine direction of Coach Mumby, Bloomington High Schools wrestling teamagain won great distinction. The Purple matmen climaxed the season by winning a tie withRoosevelt of East Chicago in the annual state high school wrestling meet, sponsored by IndianaUniversity.The Panthers, after a late start, lost their first meet to Bedford at Bedford 28 to 12. Thefollowing week the Stonecutters again defeated the Mumbymen 22-18. The same night thesecond team won from Southport. The next week the state meet was held at Indiana Universitywith the Panthers winning four firsts, three seconds, and one third. Buddy Bender won first in100 lb., and his brother, James, placed first in the 108 lb., Homer Faucett placed second in the125 lb. class, Harry Voliva won himself a first in the 135 lb. class, Allen Gifford placed secondin 145 lb. division, Chauncey McDaniel placed third in 155 lb. John Henry is the new statechamp in the 165 lb. class. Louis Thompson gained second place honors in 175 lbs.The 1934 squad is the sixth to win the state title under the tutelage of Harold Mumby.Eighty-four
