1939 B. H. S.WRESTLINGFor the seventh time in B. H. S. history,Coach Harold Mumby guided his Panther wrestlers to the highest pinnacle possible—the statechampionship. After sweeping undefeated throughseven dual meets, the Purple entertained thirteenother Indiana high school teams at I. U. andcarried away top honors with 29 points. In the seasons first dual meet, here January20, the locals swamped Rushville 38%-l%. Thenext week the Panthers traveled to Bedford andcame back on the long end of a 25%-12% count.Continuing their winning ways, the Panthers, clad in new purple tights, took a 29-11 victoryfrom the invading Southport team. The nextweek a return match with the Cardinals washeld with the Purple again winning overwhelmingly, 28%-12%.Not yet satisfied, the Mumbymen journeyedto Muncie, took the measure of the strong Bearcats, 20-12, and on the way home, pinned backthe ears of the Rushville Lions with a 28-8trouncing.Closing their regular dual meet activities, the sons of B. H. S. remained undefeated by administering a 26-12 lacing to the Bedford Stonecutters.February 24 and 25 found the Bloomingtonboys at the State Meet winning four individualchampionships and one second place. The four-man team representing B. H, S. last spring was composed entirely of sophomores. This quartet, returning intact, was made up of Bob Cook, Bill Hoke, Ken-ney Miller, and Edgar Mullins. These golferswon fourth in the state last year, and according to Coach John Brogneaux, they expect tocop first place easily this season. The chirping of birds and the blossoming offlowers also brought racketeers from their winter homes to begin batting the balls over thetennis courts. Here is the tentative schedule for the twospring sports.April 15CrawfordsvilleThereApril 21Wiley and Gerst-meyer of TerreHauteHereApril 22BedfordThereApril 28BedfordHereApril 29Wiley and Gerst-meyer of TerreHauteThereMay 5Shortridge of IndianapolisHereMay 6FranklinThereMay 12FranklinHereMay 13ShortridgeThereTRACKThe incomplete Panther schedule at the timethe Gothic went to press is as follows:Tech of Indianapolis ThereBedford (tentative)Bosse of EvansvilleSouthport RelaysOpenS.
