Description: CLASS OF 1939Entering the doors to education, 330 timidfreshmen began their high school life in thefall of 1935. Three years later, refreshedby spring vacation, these same students, nowJuniors, chose as their leaders: Len Bunger,president; Robert Hazel, vice-president; Ber-nice Brown, secretary; Preston Gregory,treasurer; Miss Elizabeth Dodds and Mr. W.W. Ferguson, sponsors; Barbara Fraser andRobert Wessels, editor and business manager ofthe Gothic.To honor the outgoing class of 38 the Juniorsstaged in the high school gym the Aloha-Oe,the highlight of which was the announcement ofthe Junior Prom Queen, Joanne Reed.Beginning their last year in school the class of39 elected Robert Letsinger and Mr. Grady Stubbsto fill the places vacated by the departure of BobHazel and Fergie. Immediately the Gothic campaign was heralded by a convocation depicting scenesof school life.Offering the school a high type of drama, the Seniors presented their first play Wings of the Morning,which introduced several new actors to the school. Fora bit of private entertainment the Seniors held a SwingSession in the High School Gym, December 23.Then on March 16 and 17 another Senior play, TheWhole Towns Talking, a rollicking, rolling three-actcomedy, delighted its eager audience.The Senior-Faculty basketball game provided the nextfeature on the Senior program, and resulted in a decisivevictory for the Seniors. Later, the Senior team trouncedthe Juniors.The month of May saw many events come and go—the reception for parents, the annual Junior-Senior Prom, the reading of the will and prophecy on Class Day, and the satisfaction of the well-fed Seniors after their banquet.The last events of the Seniors of 1939 were the solemn exercises of Baccalaureate services and the receiving of the diplomas,the result of four active and industrious high school years.
