Description: THE WRESTLING SQUADTHE 1926-27 WRESTLING SEASONUnder the efficient training of Coach Harold Mumby, Bloomington wasagain represented by one of the strongest teams in the state. Although theywere rather weak in the light weight divisions (with the exception of the 100-pound class) the Panthers made it up in the heavier weights. Four meets wereheld during the regular season. In the first one they travelled to Wabash, where they were defeated 48 to 28. Then they came back to beat out Bedfordtwice, 56 to 26 and 50 to 30, respectively. In the last meet of the season theyheld the state champion outfit from Wabash to a 42 to 38 victory. The sameteam from Wabash nosed out the Panthers by one point in the state meet andthereby annexed the crown. The team was composed of a group of good strong fellows, to whommuch credit must be given. Weinland, one of the states outstanding wrestlers, won all his matches during the whole season by falls. Ritter was one of thebest wrestlers ever produced by the school. He has a record of four consecutive years as state champion in his division. The school lost three good menin Weinland, Ritter and Blair, but Captain-Elect Souders, Hatcher and Lan-guell were left to form the nucleus of this years squad.SUMMARY OF THE SEASONJan. 14—Bloomington 28—Wabash 48—ThereJan. 5—Bloomington 56—Bedford 26—HereFeb. 1 2—Bloomington 50—Bedford 30—ThereFeb. 25—Bloomington 3 8—Wabash 42—HereBloomingtonSTATE FINALS ...50—Wabash.51Page Eighty-four
