Description: The Nineteen Sixteen--Seventeen Basketball Season.AT the beginning of the 1916-17 basketball season, the outlook for a winning team was any-thing but promising. Without the services of a single experienced player, Coach Wells faced a big pro-blem in developing a team which could maintain the high standard set by former representatives of our school. After a season of hard work, our coach succeeded in producing a team which won the right to represent this district in the State Tournament for the third time in three years. And even more than that, the playing exhibited by our boys in the finals gives us undisputed right to claim a place among the very strongest teams of the state. From the first of the season until the disastrous game at Bedford, there was nothing so very brill-iant about, the playing of our team. However, all the players were improving steadily, and after our old rival handed us the short end of a 27 to 11 score, the development was very rapid. No doubt Bedford would have been very much surprised by our increased strength, if they had gained the right to meet our five in the District Tourney. This year our team was composed of exceptionally small men, and consequently the fine record was made only by superior speed, passing, and team-work.The prospects for a winner next year are unusually bright. With only one player graduating, and a wealth of excellent material from which to select another man, next years team should not only hold our former records, but add to the honor and glory of B. H. S. by again finishing among the first rank.GAMES AND SCORESB. H. S.12Fairmount26B. H. S.24Alumni23B. H. S.18Washington32B. H. S.14Alumni22B. H. S.28Seymour16B. H. S.14Bedford5B. H. S.19New Albany22B.
