19 GOTHIC 16The Debating ClubsTHESE are not two warring factions of B. H. S. On the con-trary, they are both working for the same end. They are twodebating clubs organized to further the art of public speaking amongthe students. The Dialectic was formed three years ago and has done excep-tionally good work in developing the speaking ability of its mem-bers. This year the club spent most of its efforts in arousing interestamong the other students, and was responsible for the system ofinterclass debates.Although it is a well-known fact that one girl can do as muchtalking as two boys, the girls saw that they were at a disadvantagein not knowing the finer points, and decided to follow in the foot-steps of the boys. The Girls Debating Club was organized at thebeginning of the year and has, for the first time afforded those girlswho are interested in this line of work an opportunity to take anactive part. In the club there has been no actual debating, but itsmembers, in co-operation with the Dialectic, have managed theInterclass Debates.(46)Image alt-text: Black ink comic drawing with three panels.
