Description: NinetyThe GothicThe Season of Nineteen Fourteen-FifteenThe basket ball season of B. H. S. for 1914-15 was ter-minated in the State Tournament on Friday night, March12th, when Coach Montgomerys quintet bowed in bitterdefeat after an overtime session to the strong FairmountAcademy five, by a score of 28 to 27. Notwithstanding thefact that the schedule arranged included the strongestschools of the state, and several times necessitated theplaying of two games on a week-end, the team succeeded inwinning twelve out of nineteen games. With one of the largest squads in the history of athleticsat B. H. S., Mr. Montgomery turned out a team that rankedwell near the top of the basket ball ladder. From the timethe referees whistle blew at the beginning of the Bedfordgame here--the first interscholastic contest held in the newgymnasium--until the fatal shot in the state tourney, thepopular coach devoted his untiring efforts with a squad ofhopefuls, that for team work and get-together spirit hasseldom, if ever, been equalled.Although the players and coaches as a rule get the praisefor the showing made during the season, the students ofB. H. S., the faculty and the citizens of Bloomington wereresponsible for the greater portion of what success we didattain. There is always a group of fans that are with ateam and a coach when they win, but that gets off if theylose a game or two. However, it has been shown this seasonthat the main body of the local supporters are loyal enoughto the ideas of clean sportsmanship to want to see the visitors accorded fine treatment and to let the best team winstrictly on its merits. That is and has always been the spirit at BloomingtonHigh School, and the only spirit worthy of being encouragedor that fosters a team worthy of support. The seasons record follows:B.
