First came the sectional and after the dust (anddefeated teams) had cleared,there stood BHS and Martinsvillein the championship game. ThePanthers jumped out to an earlylead and were never headed afterthat, although the Artesians didclose the gap to two on one occasion. The final score was 75-62and the sectional champs traveledto the Columbus Regional for thelong awaited return match withthe same Columbus team thathanded the Panthers their firstearly season lesson in humility.The cagers, who dedicated thegame to Frank Witney, who sus-stained his season ending knee injury in the first encounter with theBulldogs, came through with possibly their most inspired game ofthe year, winning on DobbyGrossmans shot with 12 secondsleft to play, 70-69. The supposedly anticlimatic championshipgame was anything but that asthe Panthers squandered a 17point lead and managed to rescuetheir 73-71 victory on some clutchfree throw shooting by Brian Corbin.
