Description: |
“Jim” AveryWhy is Jim little, yet big? Be-cause he has a little body and abig brain. He doesnt demon-strate his great mental capacity, except in Physics class. Here heapplies himself earnestly andnever bluffs. For such a big man,he is exceptionally quick. Jimsmokes nothing but corn silks andnever stays out after eight oclockunless he is at a dance whenhe sometimes remains up till half-past nine.Winnifred Davis EastonWinnie is sometimes calledthe most popular girl in school, but we cant predict a bright fu-ture for her, as she is entirely toosensitive. She thinks Jim Averyis cute; that Bill Morris is goodlooking, and that Winnie Eastonis handsome. It is true that Win-nie is a good looking girl and thebeautiful part of it all is that sheis not at all self-conscious. Win-nie is learning to play the piano.Gilbert CusadderGilbert is only a little Fresh-man, but already his influence isbeginning to assert itself in theschool. He is sometimes calledtow-head, but this is unjust, as hishair is dark black. In passing be-tween recitations, he speaks toeveryone, even the Senior girls;just as though he were a Sopho-more. Gilberts papa is a doctor, and by the way, he speaks Latinand cuts up, in class, we wouldinfer that he likewise will follermedicine.“Ralph Wellons”Mr. Wellons is tall, thin, grace-ful, with a well shaped head, fullof ideas. It might be well to sayright here that these cranial ideasare never expressed and the onlyway we have of knowing they arepresent is by the gentlemans ownstatement. Ralph hibernated fromBrown County about three yearsago, and, although he is in lovewith Bloomington, he still hassome little sentiment for hisnative land and stoutly stand upfor old Brown whenever it is dis-cussed. It is understood that hewill study and then practicelaw.Helen BeckHelen is a stern believer inwoman suffrage, and is in all anindependent young lady. Herlong suit is declaring herself inclass meeting. Helen is quite pop-ular, so much so that she hadseven dates for the Junior recep-tion. Let the women vote!“Duffy” DoddsFred is supposed by some peo-ple to be well nigh brainless, butwe want to refute this most em-phatically, as it is absolutelyknown that at one time during thepresent term he said a completesentence that really meant some-thing. However, it must be saidabout Duffy that he can run fast. But, no wonder, though, he hasbeen running for twenty-threeyears. We always contended thatthe office of class historian shouldhave been reserved for him, forDuffy, the time proposition, hasit on all of us.92 |
