Description: Electives Focus On Mans Place In SocietyA VERY diversified choice of Social Studies courses was available toBHS students during the 1971-72school year. Electives which focusedon providing the students with anability to understand the structure ofpresent society and the individualsplace in that structure were in greatdemand. Such courses were Sociology, Social Problems, AmericanMinorities, Current Affairs, and Psychology.Meanwhile, the required highschool courses of World History, U.S. History, and Government and Economics provided general knowledge in those areas essential to anunderstanding of mans past, present, and future.Considered by many to be - themost progressive department in theschool, the teachers of the eight social studies courses continued to experiment with new methods of instruction. For the first year a fieldtrip was made to the state capitol bygovernment clsses to watch our legislature in action. Economics classespaid a visit to the First NationalBank of Bloomington and continuedmock stock market investing.The schoolwide trend toward individual study was prevalent incourses dealing with the problemsfacing society today.
