Description: Baseballers Disappointed in RegionalA YEARS experience for somehighly talented underclassmen mayprove to be the deciding factor forCoach Grohs diamond men thisspring. Injuries and inexperience cutshort the Panthers hopes for a trulysuccessful 1971 season. Although the71 team compiled a record of 20-4,their early elimination in the Regional was disappointing. The most serious blow to Bloomingtons state titlehopes was an injury to Frank Witney. Witney, the Panthers most effective pitcher during the past twoseasons was rendered ineffective bya knee injury. However, the continued excellence of seniors Doug Behr-man and Dobby Grossman, and thefine play of several underclassmenmade up for the lack of pitchingdepth. Jack and John Ryan were themainstays of one of the states bestdefensive outfields and the strongarm of Dennis McGuire kept runnersclose to base all year.It was a lack of offensive punchthat proved to be the real differencein the Panthers 4-1 loss to Jeffersonville, in the SCC tourney and their2-1 defeat to Honey Creek in regional play. At the seasons end the di-amondmen selected Dobby Grossman as Captain and pitching aceDoug Behrman as B-Man.74
