Going places thatweve never beenLife is a pilgrimage: you choose your own road in life and follow itto the end. Sometimes the road has what appears to be a dead end, yet if youlook hard enough, with a little backtracking perhaps, you will find your detour. Our school is a detour, an alternate route to get away from the roadblocks that the other schools throw at us. On this roadtrip we have run intohills and sometimes mountains, yet we have always prevailed, traveling evercloser to adulthood, education, graduation, and the main step on our road:Achieving our goals that we set for ourselves. The Boys Club seemed like a major tree fallen on our road. Fromthe Boar’s Head room where Bob Jacobs taught Social Studies to the teacher’scars serving as desks, we have continued our trek to Adams Street and ourhome. Even with the construction interrupting classes, we have triumphed.“I think this school opens a lot of opportunities for a lot of people. Itmight not be for everyone but it’s good for the majority of the people that gohere. It’s good for me, the layout’s alright (except for the construction), theclasses are good and well planned out, and I think that the school will last forquite some time and that it’s a good thing for many people,” says ColinMcClain.“The school building is more homey and it’s more personal. It’s likeours, our very own and we take care of it,” says Sara Acres. We have picked up people on our adventure, like wayfarers lookingfor their sanctuary. We have also lost people, people who decided that maybethis was not their weigh station.Aurora Alternative High School is a sanctuary on the road throughlife. A place where wayfarers on their road have met and found their lives ona similar track. We have gathered here at a crossroad and begun to learntogether...Craig FerreeOn the road againjust can’t wait to get on theroad again,The life I love is making musicwith my friends, and I can’t wait to get on theroad againGoin’ places that I’ve neverbeen, seeing things that I maynever see againLike a band of gypsies we godown the highwayWe’re the best of friendsInsisting that the world keepsturning our way,and our way.
