The porch has probably been altered. It was constructed as the resdience of John B. Elam.A lawyer, Elam (1845-1916) practiced with President Benjamin Harrison and William Henry Harrison Miller as a member of the firm Harrison, Miller, Winters & Elam. He was elected prosecuting attorney of Marion County in 1878, and later served as police commissioner from 1887 to 1891. Elam lived in this house until his death in 1916, after which his widow, Emma, remained here until 1920.Old Northside Historic Area Preservation Plan, 1979
