Star and diamond coverlet

Description: Star & Diamond pattern coverlet made of white, blue, green, and red wool & cotton. Multiharness weave, weft fringe in addition to unusually knotted warp fringe. The fringe is located on 3 sides. The field pattern is full stars & diamonds. The borders appear to several rows of half stars & diamonds.
This Star and Diamond pattern coverlet was probably made in Kentucky or Southern Indiana in the 1830s. The complicated pattern required sixteen harnesses on the loom to make the intricate design.
