A) bodice - brown silk bodice that has been altered, 9 hook and eyes secure front, 6 hook and eyes close front, lined w/ cotton, left sleeve just below armpit is a tear that has been repaired; armpits are stained, small tear (3 3/4") at right back below armpit B) skirt - brown skirt, lined w/ chintz underskirt, 4 1/4" from center waist is dark stain, 10 1/4" from waist ot right is 1 3/8" long discoloration; center bottom at skirt 1 1/2" from hem is large grease stain (1 3/4" x 1 1/4"); right side has white stains, skirt is made to accomodate a bustle, 3" from bottom right hem is 1/4" stain, back of skirt clases w/ hook and eye, has a few carpet beetle holes scattered throughout - Belonged to donor's great aunt, Rosella Justice, who was a Quaker. She married Emory Philips on December 23, 1886. She lived near Coatesville IN (Amo IN now?). This was her wedding dress. - mis. scraps left over from alteration - Catalog card dates dress c. 1884 |
