Description: |
Hardy forwards a memo the Chancellor about the history of IUs land acquisition in Indianapolis. He distinguishes two phases, the first lasting from 1950-1963 around the medical center, and from 1963-present for the expansion of IU in downtown Indianapolis. He notes that 1200 families lived in the area before university expansion, of which 2/3 were tenants and 1/3 owned their own homes. Assistance finding new housing was provided for the 210 families asked to move as part of the first phase, but Hardy notes the difficulty finding affordable housing for many of the families who would need to move as building projects continue. |
