Description: |
Caption: 27. Friday morning and time to leave. Compare this scene with picture number four. Delegates brought their bags out before breakfast and stored them at designated locations. Bags were loaded on buses according to train connection which each bus was to make. With close to 1000 pieces of luggage, only one went astray, a St. Louis bag which mysteriously turned up in Detroit. Chalk up another credit to the Achievers. In the foreground, Joe Francomano is arranging plans for the luncheon program with Jeannine Johnson. That must be one of the buses for the New York train, because thats Carol Xifaras again outside the third window from the front. There were a total of twelve chartered buses, and some private cars, which took the delegates to Middletown. At the town line buses separated, under the guidance of Middletown Achievers, and took the delegates to simultaneous tours of ten different Middletown plants. At 1:00 p.m. all buses converged at the Manchester Hotel for a special luncheon as guests of the Middletown Industrial Council. The luncheon program ended at 3:00 p.m. and at 3:01 p.m. the heat wave ended in a cloudburst of rain. In spite of this handicap, all trains were met for the journey home. Last train left for Detroit at 12:15 a.m. after the Detroit area, Toledo, Jackson and Midland Achievers. |
