Occupational Therapy, 1958

Description: On back of photo: OT - Rotary in cerebral palsy, 2/58. Miss Marellen DeLang OTR.Feeding Training. Meal time is learning time--learning to use daily the gains made in treatment. The occupational therapist supervises the lunch period assisting in the techniques of handling the feeding utensils, sucking chewing and swallowing. It is most important to develop this ability of using the muscles of the lips, mouth and tongue. Children who have had polio or cerebral palsy may need much muscular training before self feeding can be expected. Grouping the children together stimulates a family situation and encourages competition for cleaning up each plate. Good manners are stressed at all times. Note the chairs that will not tip over and the foot rests to support feet for proper positioning of the disabled extremities. February 1958. Cerebral Palsy Clinic.
