This image portrays the first plant owned by Inland Steel Company. Inland Steel was created in 1893 and purchased the equipment of the defunct Chicago Steel Works. The company used the Chicago Heights plant to fashion used steel rails into new steel bars for farm equipment and other uses. This rendering appears in the Inland product book of 1894. |
