Typed on back of photo: This poster is one of many used by the Red Cross during thefirst World War to help raise funds for the organization. Red CrossWeek in June 1917 inaugurated the first national fund campaign undertaken to finance the organization. Before and after this event, otherappeals for funds have met with generous response. During World War I,contributions totaled $284 million -- 42 percent more than was requestedby the Red Cross in its fund goals, which totaled $200 million.(American Red Cross Photo)RC 25453 |
