Crowds of People Watch as the Southern Garages Burn, 1941

Description: Smoke and flames fill the air as the southern bank of garages burn. Text on the photograph reads: Seeping gasoline fumes, ignited by a blow torch, started the garage area fire that destroyed three racecars and much valuable equipment the morning of the race in 1941. Prompt and effective action brought the fire under control and the race was begun after a one hour delay.
