Block, the founder of the Indianapolis department stores, bought it and lived here from 1896 until 1906. Dr. and Mrs. Caleb Pritchard succeeded the Blocks as owner-occupants from 1906 until 1919, succeeded by Benjamin Richardson from 1919 until 1964. The house features a bowed front bay, fish scale siding, a jerkin head roof, and an unusual flared chimney. The original porch was removed and replaced with a brick porch around 1950, which has since been removed.This is a 2 1/2-story, Queen Anne Style, frame house with clapboard siding and fish scale gables. It features a jerkin head gable roof with gables on the west, south, and north facades; a full-width front porch with spindled frieze, balustrade, and turned columns; flared chimney tops; eaves brackets; flared second story clapboarding; and cutaway corners.Herron-Morton Place Historic Area Preservation Plan, 1986 single-family dwelling |
