William Adams Plate Featuring Seasons Pattern

Description: Earthenware plate with transfer print of the Seasons pattern in red. On the interior bottom is scene of man hunting with a falcon and dogs. In the background are mountains and a castle across the river. Before him, in a flower-decked oval, is a bull and the word April. Around the rim is a streaked, blurred and mismatched border of allegorical figures labeled as the four seasons. Alternating with these are cameos of bouquets reaching into the well, linking these in the well are garlands. On the bottom is a cloud-veiled moon labeled Seasons. Near it is an impression Adams. Stack marks on all surfaces.
