Description: |
Written on back of photo: Dyffryn Rhondda - Closed in 1967, after an NCB investment of £3 million, it was deemed a long life colliery, but at that time, the cheap oil boom was at its height. the pit site is now scheduled for reclamation by Afan Borough sometime in the indefinite future, and it is hoped that at some stage light industry can be attracted to the site. Between 2,000 - 3000 jobs were lost during the 10 years from 1961-71, due to colliery closures. The population of the Valley is approximately 8,500. N.C.B. Photo - Dyffryn Rhondda Colliery.
